Case Study 008: F.M.
In March 2017, a case study was conducted on a 63-year-old female patient, referred to as F.M., presenting with symptoms indicative of scoliosis. The patient reported fatigue after walking or standing for extended periods, back pain, cold hands and feet, a noticeable lean to one side, spinal rotation, uneven shoulders, and neck pain.
Upon initial assessment, F.M. exhibited a right hip elevation 10 degrees higher than the left side. X-ray analysis revealed a lower left c-curve scoliosis of 34 degrees. The patient’s condition was causing significant pain and discomfort, impacting her daily activities.
An intensive care treatment plan was implemented over a 2-week period, focusing on pain management and curvature correction. The patient engaged in core strengthening exercises and neck strength building exercises, tailored to address her specific musculoskeletal imbalances.
Post-treatment evaluation showed a reduction in the curvature of the spine from 34 degrees to 24 degrees. To prevent further progression of scoliosis, a state-of-the-art custom fit brace was recommended. Additionally, a hybrid mattress was suggested to improve sleep quality and spinal alignment.
The case of F.M. highlights the importance of early detection and comprehensive treatment in managing scoliosis-related pain and improving patient outcomes. The interventions employed in this case provided measurable improvements in spinal curvature and symptom relief, demonstrating the potential benefits of targeted treatment strategies for scoliosis.
