Patient Profile:
The subject of this case report is a 12-year-old female, referred to as A.R. In April 2021, A.R was diagnosed with scoliosis, characterized by an S-curve with a 14-degree curvature on the top right and a 21-degree curvature on the bottom left.
Symptoms and Initial Assessment:
A.R presented with symptoms of back pain and spinal rotation, typical indicators of scoliosis. The discomfort associated with these symptoms significantly impacted her daily activities and quality of life.
Treatment Plan:
A comprehensive treatment plan was initiated, focusing on non-surgical interventions. This included a two-week intensive care treatment and the implementation of a state-of-the-art custom fit brace designed to address the specific curvature of A.R’s spine.
Exercise Regimen:
In conjunction with the brace, a targeted exercise regimen was prescribed. This regimen comprised abdominal strengthening exercises, plank exercises for core stability, and specific posture correction techniques. These exercises were aimed at supporting the brace’s function and improving spinal alignment.
Outcomes:
Post-treatment assessments showed a reduction in curvature to 9 degrees on the top and 12 degrees on the bottom. A.R reported a decrease in pain levels and an improvement in spinal rotation. The combined approach of bracing and exercise proved effective in managing the symptoms of scoliosis in this case.
Conclusion:
This case highlights the potential of non-surgical treatment methods in reducing scoliosis curvature and alleviating pain. The custom fit brace, alongside a structured exercise program, was instrumental in improving the patient’s condition. Continuous monitoring and adjustments to the treatment plan are essential for sustained progress in scoliosis management.
