Case Study 013: J.T.
Introduction: In October 2023, a 69-year-old female patient, referred to as J.T., presented with a significant right c-curve scoliosis of 81 degrees. The patient’s hip alignment showed a discrepancy, with the right side being 6 degrees higher than the left. Symptoms included spinal rotation, uneven shoulders, a posture that leaned into the curve, back pain, shortness of breath, and bone degeneration.
Clinical Presentation: J.T.’s scoliosis was accompanied by pain and discomfort, impacting her daily activities. The spinal rotation and uneven shoulders were indicative of the severity of the curvature. The patient’s posture had adapted to the curve, which is common in such cases, leading to further complications such as back pain and shortness of breath.
Treatment and Management: The treatment plan for J.T. included a 2-week intensive care treatment focusing on spinal traction to address the curvature and associated symptoms. Abdominal strengthening exercises were prescribed to support spinal alignment and improve core stability. Dietary food recommendations were provided to support overall health, and a state-of-the-art custom fit brace was recommended to aid in correcting the spinal curvature.
Outcome: Post-treatment, J.T.’s spinal curvature was reduced to 69 degrees with significant spinal de-rotation, indicating a positive response to the treatment regimen. The spinal traction treatment, along with the prescribed exercises and brace, contributed to this improvement.
Conclusion: This case highlights the potential for conservative treatment methods, such as spinal traction and targeted exercises, to reduce scoliosis curvature and alleviate symptoms associated with spinal bone degeneration. The custom fit brace also played a crucial role in the treatment’s success. Continuous monitoring and follow-up care are essential for managing scoliosis and preventing further degeneration.
