Case Study 015: O.N.
Introduction: In June 2022, a case of scoliosis was reported in a 15-year-old male patient with the initials O.N.. The patient’s condition was characterized by an asymmetrical hip alignment, with the right hip being 2 degrees higher than the left. This misalignment was associated with an s-curved spinal deformity, presenting a significant challenge for both diagnosis and treatment. The patient’s profile and the complexity of his scoliosis necessitated a comprehensive approach to manage his condition effectively, aiming to alleviate pain and correct the spinal curvature through appropriate treatment strategies.
Clinical Presentation: Patient O.N. presented with an s-curve scoliosis characterized by a 65-degree curvature on the top right and a 24-degree curvature on the bottom left. The patient reported lower left back pain and spinal rotation, with symptoms alleviating when sitting or lying down. Physical examination revealed uneven shoulders and a posture leaning into the curve, accompanied by a straight neck.
Treatment and Management: The patient underwent a 2-week intensive care treatment focusing on spinal and neck traction training. Posture corrective exercises and core strengthening exercises were also incorporated into the treatment regimen.
Outcomes: Post-treatment assessments showed a reduction in the spinal curvature, with the top curve decreasing to 49 degrees and the bottom curve to 20 degrees. The patient reported a significant decrease in pain and an improvement in overall posture.
Conclusion: This case highlights the effectiveness of spinal traction and targeted exercises in the treatment of scoliosis in adolescents. Patient O.N.’s case demonstrates a positive outcome with a notable reduction in curvature and pain following a structured treatment protocol.
