Case Study 019: K.O.
Introduction: In August 2017, a case of scoliosis was reported in a 6-year-old female patient, referred to as K.O. The patient presented with symptoms indicative of scoliosis, including a posture leaning to the right side and uneven shoulders. The initial assessment revealed an s-curve scoliosis with a 9.5-degree curvature on the top right curve and a 9-degree curvature on the bottom left curve.
Treatment Approach: K.O underwent a treatment regimen that included 1 week of intensive care treatment. An order-made corset was recommended for the patient to aid in correcting the spinal curvature. Additionally, spinal and neck traction treatments were administered as part of the therapeutic approach.
Exercise Regimen: Concurrent with the treatment, K.O was prescribed posture correction exercises designed to address the scoliotic deformity and alleviate associated pain. These exercises aimed to strengthen the musculature supporting the spine and promote a more balanced posture.
Outcomes: Post-treatment evaluations showed a significant reduction in the curvature of K.O’s spine. The top curve was reduced to 2 degrees, and the bottom curve was further reduced to 0.5 degrees. These results indicate a successful response to the treatment and exercise regimen.
Conclusion: The case of K.O demonstrates the potential effectiveness of combined intensive care treatment, the use of a custom-made corset, and a targeted exercise program in the management of scoliosis in young patients. The reduction in spinal curvature and the improvement in symptoms highlight the importance of early intervention and tailored treatment plans in scoliosis care.
