Patient Introduction
In November 2008, a case was presented involving a 13-year-old female patient, identified by the initials K.O. She was diagnosed with a left c-curve scoliosis, exhibiting a curvature of 28 degrees. Her condition was characterized by a straight neck, uneven shoulders, and a posture that leaned to one side with noticeable spinal rotation.
Treatment Strategy
A comprehensive treatment plan was formulated, consisting of a 2-week intensive care treatment. This included spinal and neck traction treatments, which targeted the curvature and aimed to alleviate the associated pain. An order-made corset was also recommended for spinal support.
Supportive Care
Alongside the primary treatments, disc hydration treatment was administered to maintain spinal disc health. Neck c-curve restoration treatment was included to correct the straight neck condition, which is often associated with scoliosis.
Rehabilitation Exercises
To address the core issues related to scoliosis and mitigate pain, K.O. was prescribed abdominal strengthening exercises. These exercises are essential for core stabilization. Posture correction exercises were also incorporated into her rehabilitation plan to improve alignment and balance.
Treatment Outcome
The treatment and exercise regimen led to a significant improvement in K.O.’s scoliosis. The curvature of her spine was reduced from 28 degrees to 22 degrees, underscoring the effectiveness of the multidisciplinary treatment approach in managing scoliosis symptoms in adolescent patients.
