Case Study 035: Y.M.
Introduction: The patient, referred to as Y.M., is a 65-year-old female who presented with scoliosis in December 2021. The initial diagnosis revealed an S-curve of 69 degrees on the top right side and 87 degrees on the bottom left side. Symptoms included uneven shoulders, a posture leaning to one side, spinal rotation, shortness of breath, numbness and cold hands and feet, lower back pain, and a straight neck.
Treatment Plan: The treatment plan for Y.M. involved a 2-week intensive care treatment. This included spinal and neck traction therapy, disc hydration treatment, and neck natural c-curve treatment. Additionally, dormant muscle activation treatment was administered. Alongside the treatment, Y.M. was prescribed a regimen of posture correction exercises and hip adjustments. These exercises aimed to alleviate the pain associated with scoliosis and improve the patient’s overall posture and comfort. An order-made corset was recommended for the patient.
Post-Treatment Results: Following the treatment and exercise regimen, there was a significant reduction in the curvature of Y.M.’s spine. The top right curve reduced to 40 degrees, and the bottom left curve reduced to 60 degrees.
Conclusion: This case study highlights the successful treatment of scoliosis in patient Y.M. The combination of intensive care treatment, specific exercises, and the use of an order-made corset resulted in a significant reduction in spinal curvature and alleviation of associated symptoms. The advancements in Y.M.’s condition highlight the necessity of an integrated and patient-specific method in the successful treatment of scoliosis.
