Case Study 040: C.O.

Introduction: This case report presents the treatment of a 17-year-old female patient, C.O., diagnosed with scoliosis in December 2022. The patient presented with symptoms of uneven shoulders, a posture leaning to one side, a raised left hip, and spinal rotation. The initial diagnosis revealed a bottom right c-curve of 48 degrees.

Treatment: The treatment plan included a 2-week intensive care treatment, spinal and neck traction therapy, dormant muscle activation, and disc hydration treatment. Additionally, leg and pelvic adjustments were made. An order-made corset was recommended for the patient to aid in the treatment process.

Exercises: Alongside the treatment, the patient was prescribed a series of exercises. These included abdominal strengthening exercises, posture correction exercises, and flexibility exercises. These exercises aimed to strengthen the core muscles, correct the posture, and improve the flexibility of the spine, respectively.

Outcome: Post-treatment, the patient showed significant improvement. The curvature was reduced from a c-curve of 48 degrees to 33 degrees. Additionally, the treatment resulted in a noticeable de-rotation of the spine, further contributing to the patient’s improved posture and alleviation of pain. This reduction in curvature and spinal de-rotation significantly improved the patient’s quality of life.

Conclusion: This case demonstrates the effectiveness of intensive care treatment combined with specific exercises in treating scoliosis. Patient C.O.’s treatment resulted in a significant reduction in curvature and alleviation of pain, highlighting the potential benefits of this approach for similar cases.
